Nestled at the foot of Mount York in Hartley Vale, Collits’ Inn is a rare gem of Australia’s colonial past. Built in 1823 by ex-convict Pierce Collits and his wife Mary, the inn - originally named “The Golden Fleece” - was a vital stop for travelers braving the rugged journey over the Blue Mountains. With little more than determination and bush know-how, Pierce crafted a refuge known for its warm hospitality, hearty meals, and scenic views, quickly earning a reputation as a must-stop destination on the road to Bathurst.After years of decline, the property was carefully restored in 1998 by Russell and Christine Stewart, preserving its unique character and historic charm. On completion, Collits’ Inn was officially heritage listed in recognition of its cultural and historical significance.
