Cadella Park is a circa 1845 property located in one of the oldest settled areas in the verdant Macedon Ranges. It’s an easy 50 minute drive from Melbourne but with ample local accommodation nearby. Guests enter along a drive bordered by majestic elms. A giant cypress tree provides the backdrop for the ceremony itself with country fields and grazing animals glimpsed beyond. Prunella, creators of the beautiful Churchill in Taradale, have combined rustic European decadence with a distinctly local aesthetic, designing another beautiful and flexible event space. The jewel in the crown is an inspiring renovated hay shed that’s more than a century old. This celebration space is set amid rolling farmland, hemmed by manicured hedges and stately post-and-rail wooden fences – from beyond which the odd neigh or moo floats across the paddock. An old dairy has been converted into an outdoor bar where guests relax and mingle with drinks and canapés in the dappled shade of 15-metre tall pin oaks. The sun sets behind a grove of poplars, flecking the landscape with gold as the air cools. The reception takes place in the Hay Barn – a generous open space, lit by artisan-made Baroque lanterns. It is the heart of the Cadella Park experience, with plenty of room for seated dining, to graze, feast, or lounge before getting up to dance the night away on mediterranean style terracotta concrete floors, fuelled by a six-metre long bar in front of an original stone facade.
