If you are planning a civil marriage ceremony of ANY type or size, you NEED a Commonwealth Registered Marriage Celebrant.Under Australian Law, The Marriage Act 1961 for a marriage to be legally recognized it must be solemnized by a registered Religious Minister or a registered Marriage Celebrant.

A marriage celebrant will make sure you are legally allowed to get marriedwitness all your official paperworkregister your paperwork and marriage with the Registry of Births, Deaths & Marriagework closely with you to write a personal ceremony based on youwork closely with your venue and/or event plannerAnd most importantly your celebrant will officiate your wedding ceremony.

The marriage celebrant you choose to work with should make you feel comfortable from the very first contactThey should be informative and knowledgeable in all aspects of The Marriage Act 1961They should be honest and upfront about what they are willing to do for you and how much it will costThey should be a good script writerThey should be a good pubic speakerThey should be highly professional (with a sense of humour of course)

The cost will vary depending on the location, type of ceremony, inclusions and size of the weddingRegistry Style weddings usually start around $400 for in-office ceremonies and go up as high as $1200 depending on the celebrantPetite ceremonies usually start around $500 if they are held local and have no more than 10 people, including the couple getting marriedMicro ceremonies usually start around $650 if they are held locally and have no more than 20 people, including the couple getting marriedYou can always negotiate additional inclusion, council permits, additional travel etc with your chosen celebrant who will always do their best to create the perfect ceremony for you within your planned budget, if possible
